Railroad Island Task Force
The Railroad Island Task Force, which is officially recognized by the District 5 Planning Council, is a grass-roots organization that includes long-term residents, new residents, homeowners, renters, landlords, businesses and non-profit organizations. We currently number over 40 participants, and are always looking for new ways to reach out to the community.
Saint Paul has a rich history of active neighborhood participation in governance. The District 5 council is one of 17 and is responsible for planning and advising on the physical, economic, and social development of the Payne Phalen Neighborhood. This includes identifying needs, initiating community programs, recruiting volunteers, and sponsoring community events.
Composed of a number of interested neighbors from both sides of Swede Hollow discussing our common goals, deep affection for and commitment to the park, as well as our dreams, ideas, concerns, and the history of Swede Hollow. FOSH has been meeting. monthly, planning and orchestrating a number of clean ups and work days in the park, as well as two oral history sessions at Metropolitan State University recording memories and stories from former Swede Hollow residents.
The Lower Phalen Creek Project
The Lower Phalen Creek Project is a multi-faceted effort to improve local water quality and revitalize Saint Paul's East Side neighborhoods by enhancing their ecological health and connections to the Mississippi River.
